Are There Any Foods That Can Reduce the Effects of THC?

Cannabis helps scores of people achieve their desired effects, from mental and physical pain relief to relaxation and euphoria. Those seeking substantial alleviation may assume that the higher the THC percentage, the better the results. While circumstantially true, the entourage effect shows us that the consumption experience is affected when compounds or quantities change.

For some consumers, nearly-ideal strains may miss the mark by lacking in THC or various other cannabinoids or terpenes. Or maybe heavy cannabis use has led to increased tolerance, and products that used to work perfectly no longer deliver the desired effects or required potency. When this happens, the question is: What can you do to boost your high or enhance the effects of cannabis?
What Increases THC Absorption?
foods that enhance your high

Research has shown promising results regarding THC absorption (and revealing possible ways to increase your high in the process).

Whether using cannabis for pain relief, stress reduction, or a gentle buzz to calm the mind and body, foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, terpenes and cannabinoids may help increase THC absorption and effects.

Here are the best and healthiest drinks and foods that enhance your high.
The Best Food and Drinks to Boost THC’s Effects

The next time you’re at the grocery store, keep your eyes out for these healthy foods that may enhance your high. But before consuming, remember that each person’s experience with cannabis differs, and changing your routine in an effort to boost the effects of THC could lead to possibly unwanted (or overly strong) effects. Stick to your ideal dosage and strains when trying these foods to better control your experience.
Mangoes
will mangoes really make you higher

Will mangoes really make you higher? Decades of anecdotal feedback and some research say yes. Mangoes are rich in terpenes, particularly myrcene, a terpene associated with relaxing, sedative effects.
Broccoli
can broccoli increase your high

This type of green can help enhance the effects of your favorite green (cannabis), thanks to the presence of terpenes like beta-caryophyllene, known for its potential to decrease feelings of anxiety and depression.
Nuts
can nuts increase your high

Chock full of omega-3 fatty acids, nuts have immense healing potential. A 2014 study concluded that certain nuts helped ease depression symptoms. Additionally, fatty acids bind with cannabinoids, helping enhance effects and expedite passage through the blood-brain barrier.
Eggs
can eggs increase your high

Want the effects listed above but don’t like nuts? How about some eggs instead? Rich in fatty acids, eggs may help enhance your high and provide an excellent and healthy meal option at just about any time of day.
Sweet Potatoes
can sweet potatoes increase your high

Complex carbohydrates like sweet potatoes have been linked to increased serotonin production, the brain chemical associated with positive feelings. Also rich in vitamin B6, sweet potatoes may help regulate emotions, as the vitamin plays a part in creating the body’s neurotransmitters, which oversee dopamine, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and serotonin levels.
Dark Chocolate
dark chocolate and THC

High cacao content on its own has various potential health benefits. One significant component is anandamide, a neurotransmitter and endocannabinoid that binds to the body’s CB receptors. As a natural analog for THC in our bodies, this may explain why so many turn to chocolate edibles.
Green And Black Tea
can tea increase your high

Rich in the relaxing compound catechin, both green and black tea have been known to ease various mental pains, including adverse cannabis consumption side effects, like anxiety and paranoia.

Coffee

Like cannabis, coffee can boost dopamine levels. There’s no evidence that coffee directly increases cannabis effects. Still, hypotheses suggest that coffee modulates the endocannabinoid system, a central component of the body’s consumption of various cannabinoids, including THC and CBD.
Beer
beer and cannabis

Hops, a critical component of beer, are rich in myrcene and humulene, possibly helping increase moods. Like cannabis, beer is intoxicating, so please consume responsibly. If you plan to mix pot and beer-based hops, do so in small doses to avoid overconsumption.
How Do You Intensify the Effects of Edibles?
how to boost your high

By now, we know that foods rich in terpenes, cannabinoids, and omega-3 fatty acids are central to potentially increasing your high. But did you know you can also boost your high through the opposite method?

We don’t recommend going hungry, but scores of anecdotal feedback suggest that eating edibles on an empty stomach often increases the effects of your high.

Those looking for more rapid effects turn to tinctures, which hasten the impact thanks to sublingual, or under-the-tongue, consumption. Keep in mind that tinctures aren’t like infused beverages. A beverage acts like any other edible, passing through the digestive system. With tinctures, effects often take minutes.

Another critical factor in how you experience edibles is your metabolism. A high or fast metabolism will help expedite the process, typically providing more immediate results.
Other Ways to Enhance the Effects of Cannabis

The list of drinks and foods that reportedly enhance your high is long. So too are the list of various activities and daily routine changes that can boost the effects of THC. Some of the more popular methods researched or discussed over the years include:
Take Advantage of the “Runner’s High”
runner's high

The same neurotransmitter and endocannabinoid found in chocolate, anandamide, is responsible for delivering a runner’s high. A 2013 study concluded that THC plasma levels were higher in cannabis consumers after exercising, with a theory that dormant THC stored in the body’s fat is released when exercising.
Try a New Product
try a new cannabis product

Like some medications, your body may get used to the effects of strains or products you frequently use. If that’s the case, consider trying a new product or cultivar from your favorite line that is known to deliver the effects you seek.
Switch to Edibles
edibles or smoking

Those seeking more prolonged effects may want to try edibles. Converted into 11-hydroxy-THC by the body, this cannabinoid is reported to last longer than inhaled THC, providing more substantial results.

Use a bong (or gravity bong) or do a dab
bong or smoking

Smoking enthusiasts can also increase their THC dosage by using a larger smoking device. Bongs, gravity bongs and dabs provide substantially larger doses than most small- to mid-size water pipes and bowls. Bongs, especially those chilled with ice, allow for longer, more substantial THC hits. However, doing a dab is the current ruler of the pack, offering immense dosages and near instant effects.
Switch to concentrates
concentrates vs flower

Concentrates are the extracted oil from cannabis flower, providing more pronounced effects and higher potencies than its source material. Quick results can also be obtained by smoking or vaping, or more slowly through edibles.
Change your routine
change your routine

This may not be possible for those with certain medical conditions. However, if you can safely do so, modifying your routine may help enhance or alter the consumption experience. Many of the above recommendations would constitute a change to your routine, or you may wish to try microdosing.
Take a tolerance break
take a cannabis tolerance break

Again, this may not be possible for everyone. But if it’s an option, taking a cannabis break for a few weeks can help “reset” the body’s tolerance, allowing stronger effects to be felt through smaller quantities. If avoiding cannabis for a few weeks isn’t an option (or you just don’t want to), consider holding off on consuming until later in the day. Many consumers believe that this provides more substantial effects.
What is the Healthiest Way to Inhale THC?

Smoking anything can irritate the airways and lungs, and many medical marijuana patients have shifted to edibles as a result. But if you want or need to inhale your cannabis, it’s largely accepted that vaping is the healthiest method because of its immediate effects without inhaling smoke. But, like much of the information we know about cannabis, peer-reviewed studies are far behind, leaving us with primarily anecdotal evidence for now.

Void of a definitive answer, consider the following steps to consume as healthily as possible:

Choose reputable products: Only consume flower you know to have been lab-tested and grown in suitable conditions. Buying from legal, reputable dispensaries is the best way to ensure this.
Low temperatures: Inhaling or smoking anything at high enough temperatures leads to combustion and the inhalation of toxins. Minimize such toxic byproducts by using as little fire or heat as possible on the plant.

Are There Any Foods That Can Reduce the Effects of THC?

What can you do if your attempts to enhance the effects of THC leave you feeling “too high”?

Most anecdotes and research suggest that boosting your blood sugar may help reduce the effects of THC. You can also try eating a snack (but be sure to avoid the options listed above). Some have also found success either chewing or inhaling ground peppercorns.

9 Healthy Foods (Plus 7 More Ways) to Enhance the Effects of Cannabis

Excellent read!!
AFOAF, asked me about her IBS if there is anything she could try. I found a paper, that stated, low temp olive oil infusion, around 100f for a couple of hours, may be of some help to those with IBS.
She flew from her home state, to come spend a few days, and give this a try, along with some other infusions I made for my wife, and other friends.
She had been working with her doctor to find some relief, from nausea after a few bites of food. Eliminating some foods, and how they are prepared did nothing for her.
What we found, for her, 1 tablespoon of infused olive oil in the am, and one in the afternoon, stopped the nausea. Helped her to keep more food down at first, and over a month of steady use, wiped out the nausea altogether.
If she does not use it for a week or so, back comes, the bloated feeling, the nausea, just a general over all feeling of BLAH, as she told us.
I myself, always figured she would reach a tolerance point, but here we are 7-8 years later on, and she makes it, and uses everyday.
Since we now know, there is virtually zero differences to a sativa or Indica plant, so any buds she gets is working well. She is not a stoner girl at all either.
