i see these batteries you can buy
rather big

you charge them up so you can charge your phone or camera off them when off the grid

do you use your solar to charge such a battery?

makes sense getting the most out of light and time...

Way back in '15 when I first started hiking with a solar panel, I went the Battery Bank paradigm. It made sense, charging the bank while hiking, then charge the devices in camp.

But after some testing, it turns out there's only a 55% efficiency going from solar > battery bank > device. In other words you would spend 45% more time sun charging a bank then directly charging the device.

So I dropped the extra weight of the battery bank like a hot potato. Haven’t looked back

Now many people only carry a smart phone, doubleing it down as an ereader, camera, music player, GPS, Maps... without a solar panel a Battery Bank works for them. Thing is my solar panel is lighter then a battery bank at 3.25 ounces fwiw

Mourning started off on a sweet 'n easy trail through mixed pines and hard woods

Trial opened into grassy oak woodland along the river. Even sweeter!

Took a lunch break. Solar charged and went swimming .. sorta in and out.

Followed 'em down jes to the river then quit harassing 'em.

Hiked with 3 other hikers for a half day. one of the girls had hiked part of the Oregon Coast Trail, picked her brain, a great conversion. we all went down to check out Zane Grey's cabin that he built in 1926. He was an popular american writer, idealized the American frontier. Riders of the Purple Sage his best-selling book. He wrote the vivid and popular novel Rogue River Feud here.

Good picture perspective...you can see a lot of building method details.

Have always liked old buildings and seeing how they were put together.

as a kid my father taught me how to trespass
since we wernt breaking or stealing it was ok

barbed wire fences are pretty easy once you get the hang of it

got to see all kinds of building
in the east there were a fair number of round barns

i didnt have the eye for it then but
knew it was important

and eventually got the eye
once id started building things myself...
