I've turned into a big audiophile lately....it's crazy what I've been missing all these years.....I'm currently looking for the right pro amp I can afford, my AVR just doesn't do my speakers justice, I hate to buy used but I don't feel like taking a loan out for an amp.
Any audiophiles here..?...What do you listen to your music on..?

I have a HK Citation amp that I use to push the sound up and over the machines in the sign shop. It’s an older system but they’re 7.1 Dolby THX speakers that were from a theater that closed and it will crank 200w all day without distorting like cheap paper cones

It was the summer of '85, Red-eye and I had a concert to go to. So we grabbed up our buddy Shitface, jumped in my '67 Skylark, and hit the road...we were headed to Atwood stadium in Flint. The band hadn't performed or released an album in almost a decade, let alone with the original members. It was one of those rare occasions where none of us could find any pot, so we grabbed a couple fifths of whiskey for the trip and away we went. Shitface drank one all by himself, so we let that fukker wander off once we were inside the stadium. Red-eye and I ended up on the cable box that ran from the stage to the sound guy. Lady luck must have been with us, because dude standing next to us pulled out an ounce. We promptly bought half of it. Dude was with his girlfriend and nobody else was very close to us...so the four of us hung out and blazed the whole concert.
First up, the backup band...
They were awesome. Although I did think the selection of a southern rock band seemed a little strange for the headliner. The crowd was apparently on board with it though. Now for who we really came to see. Blackmore and Glover (Rainbow), Gillan (Black Sabbath), Lord (Whitesnake), and Paice (Gary Moore's backing band) had re-converged for the first time in 11 years...this was the Perfect Strangers tour. They did not disappoint. Being an outdoor venue, they had this huge laser light show above the stage...the big talking head was the best part. Unfortunately I couldn't find any Atwood footage, but I did the best I could...
While they did a couple callbacks for some older hits, when the show was over, we knew....it went from pitch black to daylight as the stadium lights kicked on. We thanked dude for the smoke and the company during the concert, and bid him and his girl farewell. Then we started wandering around looking for Shitface. Bumped into a girl we knew and asked if she'd seen him.
"Oh yeah, he's been with a bunch of us in the stands over there...man, he's fucked up." We laughed, and proceeded over to pick him up. Early on he had managed to bump into a group of folks we knew from back home, and they had kind of 'babysat' him through the concert.
All in all, one of the best shows I have ever been to.

1979. My mom drove me & a couple of friends to the Aerosmith concert. It was 38 Special (their 1st album) Mother's Finest, & Aerosmith minus Joe Perry. Mother's Finest stole it.
Had a couple of bowls of some gold. Fired it up when mom went to the ladies room.

The Firm caught my attention mostly due to Page...but it was also when I was starting to explore offshoot bands (super groups). Bands that were not real mainstays, and would not last long, but were high quality music. A year earlier, the band that got me started down that road, was Box of Frogs. Three Yardbirds members were the core...Jeff Beck was on their first album, and Page was on their second.

Although, I always thought Asia surpassed 'supergroup' status, because they did numerous albums and were around for a long time.
I always thought a feature of a supergroup was that they were short lived.
Come to think of it, I've been listening to supergroups longer than I thought...

No not really. That whole sound/style is lost on me.
I listen to a local college station frequently, & you never know what you're going to hear. They play anything, everything, old, new, mainstream, rap, Alot of live stuff.
They'll play something that blows me away, and then a little while later, I'll be asking "wtf is this shit?" ..and flip the knob.

Usually from a car, you hear those boom boxes vibrating everything, it always sounds like utter shit.
I'm sorry, but it's never some awesome bass and/or drum riff. It always sounds random and mechanical. Sounds like the jolly green giant taking a giant crap. Boggles my mind how great the old R&B & funk was, only to have it devolve into rap. Same for commercial country music. Never liked it. Now it's worse.
Definitely know you're old though, when you don't recognize anyone at the award shows. I'd rather listen to old blues or even old times big band, then what passes for contemporary music these dayz.

Seriously though, what do you think of these designs for sound?...
I was generally a 'bigger is better' kind of thinker...until Bose came out with those little surround sound systems...and got a pair of old german speakers from my uncle that are 'directional', the manual shows the size of the elliptical cone they project. Normally I would have thought these videos to be a joke, but...it does seem to make sense.
Just wondering what other folks think of them.

Bigger can be better for things like live recordings and things with out a bunch of electronic instruments.....For newer music I would go with tower speakers and stero subs.....Room size matters too
I bought some Bower and Wilkins speakers that are considered entry level for $1000 each and two REL subs that are also considered entry level for $1500 each.....I want to buy a new amp too but at this point I don't think the acoustics of my dedicated listening room justify any upgrades....Dont think the wife would let me spend 40K to build a new dedicated listening room....Plus Im not so sure I have the best ears anymore.

Dog hair, some. Me & my doggie rode many miles together.
Seen them open for Def Leppard right after HS graduation. Split my hand open in the parking lot prior to the show. 12 stitches across my palm. They were great though. I only went to DL because all the girls I knew were there.

On another site...in another music thread...I found out aboot Leo...
Someone had posted Toto's original, and Leo's version showed up in the "recommended" list.
Most of the time he does these remake videos all by himself...all the music, all the filming, all the production...
...just the right amount of heavy metal and humor, while remaining true to the song.
Many times he does collaborations with other musicians...
Any song...any style...he'll put his own twist on.

Battlestar Galactica is one of my favorite TV shows. No, not the old one...the newer one.
One of the qualities that makes it great, is the sound track music...
Hat's off to Bear McCreary (composer) for providing 6 albums of it...one for each of the 4 seasons, and one for each of the 2 movies.
There is a core group of musicians, and they do concerts of the music. At the beginning of this clip, is Katee Sackhoff (main character in the series and movies) and McCreary on the piano...
Sometimes the concerts are bigger...adding in an orchestra and a choir...
I watched over an hour of the symphony, and the thought that kept recurring to me was...he wrote different sheet music for each instrument and voice, for all of that. Amazing, simply amazing.

Whenever you ask who wrote that oldie but goodie, inevitably Chuck Berry. With the above exception of Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower from Galactica , I heard they were willing to pay for the Jimi Hendrix version but the director wanted to say it that it was a tune not from our universe/time/cycle but a melody that would transcend.

Growing up, I garnered an appreciation for music in grade school. There was a group of kids in the neighborhood that was aboot 6 years older than me, so I was always clued in as to what the best rock station was. But everything was transistor radio back then...even my folk's hi-fi was single channel. Having records didn't really fit into the picture yet. I had Vanilla Fudge-Near the Beginning (from a garage sale), B.T.O.-Best Of (So Far) (bought new), and aboot a dozen 45's.
Things changed in 8th grade...my folks got a stereo, and my english teacher got a record player so we could play any records kids brought in, for the break between classes. Kids ran to get to her class. We listened to good music every day. Albums became important to me now. So to start out my collection, I took a fair chunk of money I had saved...and bought 5 in one shot...
1) Queen - News of the World
I wanted popular music, and this fit the bill.
On the radio you couldn't get away from hearing...
...usually played together just like that.
The whole album is awesome, but these two are my favorites...

3) Billy Joel - The Stranger
Generally, I'm a guitar guy, not a piano man. But I am fond of jazz, which is what I consider this album to be.
And, it was probably Joel's best album. At the time, this hit was pervasive...
I don't really like it...I view it as one of the weakest songs on the record.
But there were others that were good...more anthem-like...
...and my favorite, happens to be the one Joel views as the best song he ever wrote...

This was probably Ted's most popular album...and although it was a new release, most of the tunes were well known by this point.

I'd heard plenty of Rush from prior releases, so I had a pretty good idea that I'd like this one as well.
Only one tune got much radio play...
...occasionally you would hear the other single that was released...
...but I preferred the longer instrumental from that side of the album...
That rounded out my first serious purchase of albums. To this day, I still consider these all to be some of the best music in my collection.

That rounded out my first serious purchase of albums. To this day, I still consider these all to be some of the best music in my collection.

I was turned on to popular music way young. I had young parents who had a small yet essential record collection. I was a Beatles fan at 5. Was listening to everything they listened to. The first record I remember buying on my own was a 45' of Elton John. When Kiss hit the scene they were my instant #1. Went to my first concert, Jefferson Starship, in 76, because my aunt took the whole family. Went to my first concert of choice in 77 Kiss w/ Acdc....and just like that I was a concert goer.
Out of your choices I've seen Rush, the Nuge, & Billy Joel.
Saw Terrible Tedd back in 79' on the Wango Tango tour. Twas a three band show.. Def Leppard (their very 1st album), the Scorpions (Love Drive) opening in that order.
It was general admission, I was the youngest of a large group that went and we ended up right up front center for Def Leppard. Theycwere pretty good.. That song "wasted"
had just recently began getting airplay. Afterwards we went and got seats about half way up, half way back. The Scorpions were without a doubt the highlight of the evening. They killed it. When it was Tedd's turn, he came out swinging on a vine (like tarzan) wearing nothing but a fig leaf diaper thing. Next thing you know they blew the fuse and had to stop mid opening song. The power remained out for over an hour. It wasn't one of his better nights...Billy Joel I saw when "Pressure!" came out. Of course he was as good as you'd expect.

After high school I had a buddy that clued me in, to the dumpster diving of music....cut-outs...the bargain bin.
Most of it was trash. Crappy compilation albums..."Hits of the 60's", "Summer Rock", etc. Or has been records from faded musicians. Or groups you've never heard of. Just old stock that didn't sell, that the store was trying to get rid of. BUT, occasionally you'd find hidden gems. Imagine my surprise one day, when I stumbled across an original Deep Purple - The Book of Taliesyn...15 years after it's release!
I was all like......JACKPOT!!!

Like Elvis. Never cared for most of his stuff, but then once in a while there were songs that do resonate...

I think most fans would agree...something changed at that point.
Another band that had a similar effect for me was Van Halen. Huge fan of the first 6 albums with Dave...
Can you believe their debut album was the worst ranking album (19th) they put out...
Van Halen II and Women and Children First got better (6th)...
Fair Warning was another tick up (5th)...
Diver Down kept them headed up (3rd)...
...and 1984 got them just shy of the top (2nd)...
Then it happened...Dave was out.
Even though I was a big fan of both Van Halen and Hagar, I was not amused with Van Hagar...despite their 4 albums with him all hitting #1. I saw them for their 5150 tour, but was basically disappointed. Their music seemed to become too commercialized. Never really cared to listen to them after that.
But now I'm thinking maybe I short changed them...maybe I need to give their last 6 albums another listen.

Yep I agree Bob, it could be said of every band that they're at their best when they're up and coming and hungry. I agree 100% about VH. Only caught them in 1984. Only saw Aerosmith once as well,, in 79 just after Joe Perry had left. Night In the Ruts tour.
Only saw ACDC once as an unknown opener in 77...was no way to top that afterwards...

Lol...I saw Terrible Tedd back in 79.
Twas Def Leppard (1st album) The Scorpions (Love Drive) & headliner Terrible Tedd Nugent (wango tango)
It was general admission & we managed to be right up front center for Def Leppard. Don't remember why but we saw the rest of the show from the nose bleedz.
Turned out that the Scorpions owned that night. Def Leppard came in 2nd. True story

Lou, the owner used to spin pizza on the boardwalk at Ponzetti's. So he always had fresh dough pizza bar, so he could throw one when it pleased him.

Peyote, a psychoactive cactus native to the Chihuahuan Desert, has been preserved from excavations at only two archaeological sites: Shumla Caves in the Lower Pecos region of southwest Texas and shelter CM-79 near Cuatro Cie´negas in Coahuila, Mexico. We determined three indistinguishable radiocarbon ages of 5160 45, 5200 35, and 5210 35 14C years BP, yielding a mean age of 5195 20 14C years BP for the three specimens from Shumla Caves. For one of the Cuatro Cie´negas specimens we obtained the first direct radiocarbon date of 835 35 14C years BP. This study demonstrates the use of peyote by inhabitants of the Lower Pecos region of the Chihuahuan Desert about 6000 calendar years ago, and confirms its use by inhabitants of the Cuatro Cie´negas region of the Chihuahuan Desert in Late Prehistoric times. The Shumla Caves’ specimens are composed of an aggregate of ground peyote mixed with other plant material, i.e., they appear to be manufactured peyote effigies, and are definitely not intact peyote buttons.

Went to spend the day with my brother at his lake house Thursday.
First time I'd been up there since the dam failed, draining the lake.
We grabbed his turntable and records from the garage attic...been sitting there for 20 years.
He randomly pulled a record to check the condition....Rush - Power Windows....still flat.
Sampling through the tunes on y/t this morning, there is only one that I recognize at all...
Will have to look through the rest of his albums...see what else he has.

I think most people know of the rift that formed between Metallica and Dave Mustaine, when the band fired Dave the day before they were set to start recording their first studio album. They said Dave was a violent drunk that couldn't play guitar. Dave took exception and vowed to crush Metallica by playing louder, harder, and faster.
Before they dumped him, Metallica recorded a demo song which Dave wrote and played on...
After Dave formed Megadeth, he demo'd the song with his new band...

Took an hour drive today to buy an external DAC so I could listen to HI Res Lossless music…but came home empty handed, price was to high and I need to do more reading on them before I spend that kind of money.

Yes I listen to lossless music.
From vinyl to CD to digital. First with .wav files and today with .flac files.
I just finished ripping 200+ more CDs as flac albums, flac albums are the way to go for me, holds the metadata too. Got a new 512 gigabyte card for my tablet for the flac albums. Still cleaning up the metadata before transfer.
High resolution? Don't know, whats the differance from lossless. My equipment is small for what it's worth, low power use.

After doing a bunch of reading last night it seems my AVR can do Hi Res but just not with Apple Music, I’m going to probably try a new streaming service soon, I’m thinking about paying for TIDAL.

my understanding is that though mp3 is much lower fidelity than CD, CD is in fact a lower fidelity standard than you find on an album recording
you have to rip the highest quality recording via a lossless protocol an with CD your starting with diminished goods.

Aik Alif is written by Bulleh Shah (17th century) in which he asks people to stop studying all that science, education and spiritual knowledge they are studying because all that is not important when you haven't studied your own self.
Here he has shown the importance of Aik Alif. Alif is the first alphabet of Urdu script. It also means "1" and Bulleh Shah tells that all you need is "Alif" meaning oneness or Unity. We must see each one of us as 1. Everything in this universe is just Alif.

You have to remove the
&list=RDyyXF_YuC_2A&index=12 from the end of the string...
...because that bit at the end identifies a playlist...and I'm guessing the youtube imbedding does not work for playlists.

up till then all i ever had to do was remove everything forward of the first equals sign from the right.
