if you were shooting for as big as could be expected plant to finish oudoors after a few months start indoors what volume of soil would you want to have prepared for it?

local soil is acidic crap and big rocks so its all coming in and without heat concerns was gonna build a box.
what dimensions would you pick?

As big as your coaster or Dolly could handle the weight. A meter Square by half a meter high?. You planning to custom build the Box?

hoping to find something poly and just frame it for weight.
the hassle is going to be water coming in by trailer,
think 3 plants above poly tanks using wicks

serious thunderstorms through the summers there so a very wide roof very high up as well

pardon me if I think outside the box for a minute,
but what's your plan to prevent bugs and such?
the answer could affect your box size
I'm thinking a quality hoop greenhouse
like a king bird with 2 screen doors + windows and a top center beam
would be better than spraying a lot
but I guess they don't make them very tall
15' x 6.6 x 6.6 would hold a few large plants if you train them right
or a whole gang of 20 gallon pots

had figured open air would work
the location is at nearly 9000foot elevation
very dry, never see any bugs even near the small streams and ponds

not even those little white butterflies?
which leave behind inchworms...

I like my old 20 gallon pots,
but I'd like to upgrade to the new tech fabric big 30 gal

a friend had 12' tall plants in 4' x 4' boxes
but i think he had some issues maybe related to how shallow the soil was
should be at least 2' deep, and maybe 3' wide is my guess, but bigger is better

not a pot tree grower but a few things.
bigger the better. if you looked at a pot plants roots.
it is shaped like a upside down maple tree. so wide is good
also deep enough. then get some silica or rob it out of a pack
of adult diapers. they hold a lot of water. i would buy some.
mix that well into the soil. it will hold and release water.
give me a thriving green bushy plant and the bugs will come.
mother nature and 2 legged pests to worry about. hope this helps.

Still below freezing here. looks like it's going to be like this all day.. tomorrow.

This is why we can't have nice things like Garden pests at elevation.

...and cold weather is probably the #1 reason to employ a greenhouse
but I understand if it's out of the question. good luck!
