But if we kill God what about our soul? I'm kinda intrinsically attached to it, spending much of my time doing things that are good for the old soul,

I think you have to take that up with your god as I defer belief in a diety to Nature and so I can know where I stand in the greater scheme of things. Now is the gift...that's why they call this the present.
