I Have Decided to Follow Jesus is a Christian hymn that originated in Assam, India.

According to Dr P. Job, the lyrics are based on the last words of Nokseng, a Garo man, a tribe from Meghalaya which then was in Assam, who along with his family decided to follow Jesus Christ in the middle of the 19th century through the efforts of an American Baptist missionary. Called to renounce his faith by the village chief, the convert declared, "I have decided to follow Jesus." His two children were killed and in response to threats to his wife, he continued, "Though no one join me, still I will follow." His wife was killed, and he was executed while singing, "The world behind me, The cross before me." This display of faith is reported to have led to the conversion of the chief and others in the village. The fierce opposition is possible, as various tribes in that area were formerly renowned for head-hunting.

The formation of these words into a hymn is attributed to the Indian missionary Sadhu Sundar Singh. The melody is also Indian, and entitled "Assam" after the region where the text originated.

An alternative tradition attributes the hymn to Simon Marak, from Jorhat, Assam.

An American hymn editor, William Jensen Reynolds, composed an arrangement which was included in the 1959 Assembly Songbook. His version became a regular feature of Billy Graham's evangelistic meetings in America and elsewhere, spreading its popularity.

Due to the lyrics' explicit focus on the believer's own commitment, the hymn is cited as a prime example of decision theology, emphasising the human response rather than the action of God in giving faith. This has led to its exclusion from some hymnals. A Lutheran writer noted, "It definitely has a different meaning when we sing it than it did for the person who composed it.

It’s from a story in the Bible, Lot and his wife were told to leave the city they were in because God was going to punish the evil people that lived there. In his instructions to them he warned them to not look back at the city. Lots’ wife couldn’t resist and looked back and God turned her into a pillar of salt.

a single other meaning would be an irony or other artifice but as i said noted i mean multilayered soas to mean different things to different readers at different times in their life.

but its the viewers perspective changing rather than say that which youll find looking at a story from the different perspectives of characters in said story

up on a higher tier i came across a dried and desiccated white owl,

Got trapped. Held him in my hand let him his talons clench onto my finger, cut in a little, he could have done much worse, he tried to bite my hand holding his wings tight so he wouldn't hurt himself, yet he could have done much worse with that beak. and when I gently pried his beak away he stopped. Couldn't get a hand free to take a picture so I just brought him out to the porch and let go.
Man those eyes were deep.

one of my uncles is a Sufi. but my family are orthodox Sunni, Sufism has never really played a huge role in my life, I like reading up about it and I love RUMI quotes and poetry. i refer back to his works when i really need to ground myself from the materialistic world, which happens quite often these days..

the world is really fucked up now and i guess some people hark back at times when things were just simplistic nd we had a nuclear family
