Hang your seeds
When you use the paper towel method to germ your beans do not lay the paper towel flat. The paper towel must be vertical not horizontal. That way the seed can respond to gravity and send the root down like it would in soil.
If Muley can scruff along i can too.

Hang your seeds
Worked perfectly.
When I use to lay the paper towel flat I would get a fair number of seeds whose emerging root was just a twisted mess.
This time all the seeds had a root with the normal bend and the rest of the root was straight.

One important point is to check the seeds often after about 36 hours.
Right after the root pops out it makes a 180 degree turn. At that time you want to make sure the end of the root is pointing down so that gravity will make the root grow straight.

Ever looked closely at those twisty roots ya left WAY too long?
They are covered with tiny 'hairs'...those are roots too. And they break off they you pull them out of paper-towels.
Gravity works regardless of 'hanging'..do you even science?!

and thats the way it isThat's cause you're doing it wrong.
towels are only to open the seed, not for growing the root ...
as soon the seed cracked, immediatly transfer to substrate of choice
36 hours is way toooooooooooooooooooooo long
4 hours was my fastest btw
awoken the right way

Ah Einstein did you happen to notice the words "worked perfectly".
Oh yeah when things work perfectly it's a sure sign you didn't do it the right way.

I was referring to the 'twisted mess', bro.twilson wrote:HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAcountry boy wrote:That's cause you're doing it wrong.twilson wrote: When I use to lay the paper towel flat I would get a fair number of seeds whose emerging root was just a twisted mess..

You damage that poor little plant when you fuck up that tiny root system.
I skip the paper-towel part and go straight to substrate, after a good soaking.
Whatever works for you
